My
teaching technique is one built from a base of strong isolations and understandings
of the motions of the body that make up each move. I then move each student
into building their dance repertoire by adding moves like pearls on a string
to make up their own dance performances and ultimately their style. From
that groundwork I show the students how to explore the deeper, more emotional
side of middle eastern dance. There is strength in the slow intent movement
as well as the fast and furious. By building on the basic isolations and
giving understandings of the complete aspect of middle eastern dance, I
prepare each student to move on to find their own niche in the dance community.
Many of my students have moved on to professional venues as well as instruction.
