Board Meeting June 19, 2003
Residents Deliver over 270 Petitions & Demand Board Repair Huntington Venture Park Assets
The Board Meeting lasted over 3 hours and the Huntington Village Board of Directors were delivered a message by homeowners that was loud and clear... "Repair Our Huntington Venture Park Assets"...
In an unusually strong attendance showing, members were asking questions and demanding answers. Maintaining composures, board members did their best to explain reasons for their actions, although many of the answers were obviously not accepted by the audience. Questions from the audience asking why there are some homeowners paying different annual assessments from others were met by answers from Board President Lee Meister to "Seek your Own Legal Counsel" for your own answer.
The new Security
Service was on-hand to
present what they had to offer the community in added security. In April, the Board
approved a $45,000 purchase for added security, but failed to follow the
required Bidding Procedures for this purchase. They
were admonished during the meeting for that failure and attempts to justify
their actions were met with astonishment of the cavalier attitude in which the
board can approve that kind of expenditure without following their own mandatory
guidelines.
Questions asking why the $37K borrowed from the Reserves have not been repaid and others questioning the dwindling balance of the reserves were met with familiar unanswered silence from the board. According to the February Minutes, the reserves were at $151K then, but last night that account had somehow been reduced to $132K? Pools Director Florence Cruz announced her position was too draining and that she would not be seeking re-election in October. Vice President Gloria Dowiak echoed similar concerns with her position. There were no calls for any board member to step down yet.
Further discussions included announcements that Director Carl Swanson had resigned in May, but his replacement was appointed in May by the Bod to complete his term. July will mark the beginning of the new election cycle and a nominating committee will be formed for the upcoming October Elections. Five Board Members positions will be filled this year and volunteers for committee and candidate positions were being sought this evening.
A revolution is taking place in Huntington Venture Park Not the noisy kind of revolution, but the quiet kind that has demonstrated recently how HV Homeowners have been able to remove a number of unsavory elements from our Venture Park and take it back for the children. This revolution has been so successful that most of the community is unaware it has taken place.
In an effort to let HV Homeowners know there are those who care, Houston Police Department Officers met with a group of concerned HV Residents at our Huntington Venture Park Wednesday April 30. This gathering demonstrates the readiness of our local HPD to be there when needed.
