Well, despite the desires of the Hard Core Burn
fans, there has been a change. In 2005, the team that was formerly
known as the Dallas Burn will be known as FC Dallas. To the left is
the new logo - not entirely bad, and it incorporates some of the Burn history
in it - with the flame on the bulls head, and the "96." Personally,
I like calling the team FC Dallas 96 - and I don't seem to be the only one. This page will remain as The Red Book - as The Inferno will remain as The Inferno. This begins a new chapter in the history of this franchise. I do thank Greg Elliott and those who were invovled in the process for keeping the bridge to the old name and history - I think that is an important distinction. Compare where FC Dallas 96 is relative to the Burn on one hand to San Jose and the Clash and EarthQuakes on the other. Forza FC Dallas 96! |

Part of the Original Ten of Major League Soccer,
as the Burn, Dallas has been close to ultimate success often and have
reached it once, defeating D.C. United in the 1997 US Open Cup Championship.
With past stars such as Leonel Alvarez, Alain Sutter, Mark Dodd, Dante Washington, Mark Santel, Ariel Graziani and Zarco Rodriguez, as well as current stars Jason Kreis (1999 MLS MVP), Ronnie O'Brien, Oscar Pareja and Brad Davis, the Burn have posted a winning season almost every year. The last two years have been hard, but new stars Cory Gibbs and Eddie Johnson seem to be leading the way to the promised land! |

HISTORY!
FRISCO IS NOW A REALITY! (Well, everyone has signed off on it, now they have to design it and build it) See HERE for more on this AWESOME development for Dallas soccer. Eat your heart out, Chicago! There are more pics, current as of January 2003, at 3rd Degree! Go HERE for Current News |

The Burn have inspired numerous fan groups, including
The Inferno Supporters Club and La Mara Loca. Here you can find
The Inferno SC
webpage.
A new addition to the fold is The Inferno Motorcycle Club -- not really an offshoot but instead an integrated part of The Inferno SC. Also, check out the Dallas Burn Chants and Songs page. From The Inferno SC came The Inferno Football Club , which began as members of the SC playing kickaround to where now the Club has over five teams in varying degrees of skill -- including the Third Division (of 11) of the North Texas Premier Soccer Association ( NTPSA ). While not affiliated in any real capacity, The Wave -- a co-ed soccer team that plays on Friday nights -- has a number of players from the Inferno II and 30 teams. Their website is here . While on the subjects of tangents, my favorite womens' soccer player is Shannon MacMillan . For MLS quick info: Homepage |

The Burn has also inspired some wonderful journalism.
Over time, different websites devoted to the Burn developed into
what is now the previously mentioned

Eddie Johnson
Eddie Johnson joined Dallas three years ago as a P-40 player. He played
sparingly until Colin Clarke took it upon himself to get Eddie off his butt
and into high gear. It is safe to say he has succeeded. Fast
Eddie exploded onto the US Men's National Team during the 2004 World Cup
Qualifying run, scoring five goals in three games, including a natural hat
trick against Panama. For Dallas in '04, Eddie was not only a leading scorer for the team, but in the league. This off-season has high hopes for a more solidified midfield and a better strike partner that would allow Eddie to continue his improvement. |

As always, go to 3rd Degree for more detail Rumor mills have produced the following: Richard Mulrooney, a very solid central midfielder, wants out of San Jose and Dallas is looking to try to bring him here; Clarke has put in a discovery request on an Ecuadorian forward; and FC Dallas '96 may draft P-40 forward Jaime Watson. On the stadium front, we know June 11 is going to be the opening
of Uncle Lamar's House of Whoop Ass! We also know that FC Dallas will
start the season on the road against the Chicago Fire, and that the June
11 game will probably also be against the Fire. |

This a picture of some of The Inferno SC.
We are sometimes known as the Sambatistas -- the drummers of The
Inferno. Add in another 20-40 regular members, and you have The

PAST NEWS
We recently drafted Ramon Nunez and Clarence
Goodson in the first round of the MLS SuperDraft, and have re-signed Jason
Kreis, Toni Nhlecko and Oscar Pareja. Chad Deering has not been asked
back. Coach Clarke has been to Europe and is currently in South America
looking for players for the allocation spots. Word around the campfire
has the Burn looking at Corey Gibbs, the surprise of last summer for the
US.
1-25-04 ---
We lost the No. 1 draft pick in the 2004 Super Draft because Freddy Adu signed with MLS and insisted on playing for DC United. As such, the league basically forced Dallas and DC to do a deal which reportedly will send a Major Player Allocation to Dallas. Recent reports have the MLS salary cap rising, so this may be a pretty big deal. Additionally, it appears the Burn will also get a You Suck Allocation for not making the playoffs. With that, the Burn have two MPAs and two first round draft picks (No. 4 and No. 6 overall). That should be enough leverage to allow the Brain Trust to make some sweeping changes. The 2004 Dallas Burn may not be very recognizable from previous incarnations, but Elliott has basically said that they are looking at making this team a solid team for the next five years. A good idea, let's see how they implement that. There were rumors that the Burn were looking to bring in Scott Garlick from Colorado - a good move for the team, but maybe not such a great move for DJ... For more details, check out 3rd Degree. My take? Colin plans on keeping Brad Davis, Ronnie O'Brien, Jason Kreis, the recently acquired Steve Jolley (for T-Bone - boy is NY/NJ going to be mad if he decides not to stay in MLS), and EJ, then see what he can get from the rest to make it into a team built around the two MPAs - which are apparently going to be a central defender and a central midfielder/playmaker. That may or may not mean the return of Chris GBandi, Ezra Hendrickson, Toni Nhlecko (although apparently the Burn are trying hard to renegotiate his contract), Ali Curtis, Oscar Pareja, DJ, Vaca and Jordan. It would appear that Chad is gone. Like I said, lots gonna' happen this off-season. ---
GREAT NEWS! WE'RE GOING BACK TO THE COTTON BOWL FOR 2004! Praise those in power for biting the bullet. Now if we could just get a better team on the field.... Easily the worst season in Burn history, the 2003 campain will be the year we wish we could forget. Jeffries has been fired, Andy stepped down, Jason got hurt, Ronnie got hurt, Cerritos, Chivas, Broome and Suarez got traded, we were eliminated from the playoffs for the first time EVER - all at the debacle that is Southlake. Ugh. I guess the less said, the better, huh? Well, at least we retained the Brimstone! It has been an interesting off-season. Zarco is gone, but we're not sure about Matty. Earnie chose DC instead of Dallas, but the front office didn't seem all that phased by it. The biggest news, though, is that the Burn have left the Cotton Bowl for Southlake Carroll's Dragon Stadium. Go to 3rd Degree for a more detailed look. The draft seemed to be a good draw for Dallas once again, with the acquisition of Brad Davis and Shavar Thomas -- who both are looking like they could start in 2003 -- as well as Jason Thompson, a P-40 player who has shown flashes of brilliance.
This after the Burn put their mark on the
MLS All-Star Game
with Jason scoring a goal and assisting on the game
winning tally, and Vaca feeding Etcheverry for his wonderful goal.
Somehow, Marco got the MVP despite only scoring a goal as opposed
to Jason's goal and an assist...
DALLAS - The Dallas Burn announced today the signing of Northern Ireland defender Steve Morrow. Morrow, 31, has a wealth of experience in the English professional leagues, including ten years in the Premiership. Further, the Dallas Burn drafted Chris GBandi No. 1 overall in the MLS SuperDraft on February 11, 2002. BURN TRADES ARIEL GRAZIANI TO SAN JOSE FOR FORWARD RONALD CERRITOS
DALLAS - The Dallas Burn announced today that they have traded forward Ariel Graziani to the San Jose Earthquakes for forward Ronald Cerritos and the second round pick (17th overall) in the 2002 MLS SuperDraft. It is (halfway) official. The McKinney City Counsel voted Monday night to commence negotiations with MLS -- basically, they put it on the line in public that they believe it will happen. See the story by Justin Barrera with InternetSoccer.com . An article in the Fort Worth Star Telegram, by Tobias Xavier Lopez, is here . And Jeff Bradley weighs in with this piece . See a rendering here . The 2002 Dallas Burn schedule is out. Check out some schedule analysis . Per Ridge Mahoney of Soccer America: NEW 'D' IN BIG 'D': Burn coach
Mike Jeffries says the acquisition of Columbus defender Tenwya Bonseu may
mean Dallas will use a 4-4-2 Dallas started out the 2001 season playing 3-5-2 but couldn't find the right mix of players and system because of injuries, most notably those to Lubos Kubik, and played 4-4-2 in many games. With Kubik gone, Jeffries plans to use Jorge Rodriguez as his defensive midfielder and Bonseu in the middle alongside Richard Farrer. Ryan Suarez and Paul Broome are penciled in as outside backs. Jeffries denied rumors that a trade of Ariel Graziani to San Jose for Ronald Cerritos had been discussed. Cerritos recently obtained his green card and thus the Quakes have an additional slot open for a senior international. "Ariel and I had our differences last year," said Jeffries of the Ecuadoran's anger at being substituted on several occasions. "Of course his name is going to come up any time a trade rumor is out there." Jeffries also denied that Rodriguez, whose contract is still being negotiated, was leaving the club. "I expect him to be back with us this season," said Jeffries. The Burn made a move on January 15th that made up for any shortfall in the Allocation and Dispersal Drafts on Friday -- acquiring Tenywa Bonseu from the Columbus Crew. See the MLSnet.com story here . Well, the petition continues
to kick butt. Check it out --
http://www.petitiononline.com/dbs/
. The Burn
are now two players and a draft pick richer after Friday's Allocation
and Dispersal Drafts. Josh Keller and Jeff Cassar join the
team, as well as the number one overall draft pick in the upcoming
SuperDraft. For more information, see
here
. This came about because Major League Soccer
has contracted the Miami Fusion F.C. and the Tampa Bay Mutiny.
