A Motorcycle Information Page

Horsemen

Welcome!  Just as with my World Cup Resource, I hope my MIP will have all the information you might be looking for, whether you are a novice rider or a grizzled veteran.

If you want to contact me in regards to this site, please email me.

Below you will find information broken into different groups: Beginner (training, purchase information, notes); Experienced (Rides, organizations -- currently under construction); and stuff about the guy who wrote this page.  Note that I have taken the Beginner stuff and put it on its own page.

Also, Stephanie's Corner is my newest addition.

"We have learned how to spot the good ones on a map...  If the line wiggles, that's good.  That means hills.  If it appears to be the main route from a town to a city, that's bad.

"The best ones always connect nowhere with nowhere
and have an alternate that gets you there quicker

EXPERIENCED RIDERS

See below for more links on other organizations and rides .  I am in the process of putting together a Texas Rides page that will have some suggested routes.

But if you are in the DFW Metroplex, and want to ride with a purpose, take a look at these organizations:

Also, I highly recommend the Ride Texas magazine and website.

The Guy Who Wrote This Page

Me?  I am a new rider.  I bought Noel on November 2, 2002, took the MSF course that following weekend, and recently got my Texas motorcycle certification.

I am a HUGE soccer fan.   Implausible Dreams is the name of the overall homepage for all this, and from there you can get into my World Cup stuff, my Burn stuff, etc.

I am a part of a few organizations.  Two are related to soccer: The Inferno Motorcycle Club which is for the Dallas Burn and a subset of The Inferno Supporters Club, and the 28th Cavalry Regiment of Sam's Army, which is a supporters group for the US National Soccer Teams.  I am also a member of the Honda Riders Club (good benefits), as well a member of the American Motorcycle Association of America and the Texas Motorcycle Roadriders Association.

I would also point anyone who is into the band, Rush, to Neil Peart's book, "Ghost Rider."  For more information, go to my Neil Peart Condolences Page and take a look at how motorcycling possibly saved his life.  My overall Rush page is Chaotica .

I have put together The Road to Perdition -- a riding diary.  Take a look and glean what you can from it -- especially if you ride in North Texas.  Keep in mind, I've been riding since November, 2002, and have put over 4,000 miles on my rosinante, Noel.  I am still learning my way around, finding the right roads that go from nowhere to nowhere and have an alternative that gets you there quicker. Please EMAIL ME any suggestions or comments you might have -- they are VERY welcome.

Also, look for a Texas Rides page soon with some suggested routes.

THE ONE!
Meet Noel!
Honda Shadow A.C.E. 750

After careful consideration and lots and lots of debate, I chose an all-black, 2003 model Honda Shadow American Classic Edition as my first motorcycle.  Want to see it up close and personal?   Here you go!  I got her at Al Lamb's Honda in Dallas.

It was a tight race between the ACE, the Kawasaki Vulcan 800 Classic and the Suzuki Intruder, but based on the fact that it was a more comfortable ride, the power concerns were not as scary as originally perceived, the Honda 'extras' and the fact that I probably want a Valkyrie as my second bike -- and therefore the trade-in value and where I bought my motorcycle became important -- this seemed like the right choice.

They were able to include a removable windshield and hard saddlebags (designed to look like softies) which I have later installed yet.  I wanted to get used to riding the motorcycle as is first.  That proved to be a good decision - the added weight would have made it harder to get a feel for the bike.

Much thanks to Parrish for keeping the idea warm until I pulled my head out.  Join me soon, my friend!

Also, BIG BIG BIG THANKS go to my friend, Mike Daniel.  Mike is a fellow rider who was willing to help me through this process.  I would not be nearly as comfortable with my decision if it had not been for his help, counsel and guidance.

Here is a review of an A.C.E. off of Beginner Bikes.com.  Subsequent to buying Noel in November, I have ridden with other riders and reviewed my decision a few times.  With the possible exception of the Volusia, I CLEARLY made the right decision.  Between reliability, the wide saddle, the general ergonomics (including foot and hand positions), the wide front tire and the suspension system, this bike rides exactly as I would want it since I want it to look good, but mostly I want it to ride well enough that if I decide to ride to Houston (as I did on May 8) I could do so comfortably.

Thanks to  for their assistance.

STEPHANIE'S CORNER
This section is for women riders.

Stephanie is a good friend of mine from college, and these are the links that I think would be most useful to her as she lays down the miles on her Suzuki 650.  Please contact me if you know of more links that would be useful here.
