USA-Mexico at the Cotton Bowl!
The US Mens' National Team took on Mexico on Wednesday, April 28th, at 7:30 p.m. Central/local at the Cotton Bowl. It was all the Glory one could ask for! In addition to the Sam's Army article, I've put together my own page to commemorate the event. Relive the experience HERE! Please note that it is very picture-intensive. Dallas Burn, 3.2 - Under Construction
Keep an eye on
The Red Book
and 3rd Degree.net
for the latest info on the rebuilding of FC Dallas (f.k.a. the
Burn) under the direction of Greg Elliott and Colin Clarke. Super stud
Eddie Johnson, new additions Richard Mulrooney and Greg Vaney and Ronnie
O'Brien and Simo Valakari and others are reestablishing the Burn as a viable
MLS commodity. Also, see
History in the Making
with the Frisco Stadium recently announced for 2005!
This will be the home of the Dallas Burn of Major League Soccer
(and hopefully host some USNT games, as well as possibly a WUSA franchise!)
Motorcycle Information
Take a gander at
Highway Child
-- my motorcycle information page -- and
The Road to Perdition
-- my riding diary. I have recently moved the beginner
rider stuff to
Get In The Saddle
- a Beginner Basics page. It is still a bit UC, but it has
the links, etc. THE WOMEN CAME TO THE COTTON BOWL!
The Womens' National Team played Mexico at the Cotton Bowl on November 2, 2003. It was pretty darn cool - Sam's Army made its presence known, and Shannon MacMillan was kind enough to sign my jersey, give me the boots off her feet and sign them for me as well! Check it out! It was a good warm-up for the mens game later in the year - thanks to the Burn, USSF and all who helped make all of this possible! (Including Ed Bazan, the guy who took this photo.) Korea 2002, November 2, 2003 and April 28, 2004 - Implausible Dreams, indeed! |
You can do a lot in a lifetime if you don't BURN out too fast. |

"The fan support is night and day to what it used to be," Eddie Lewis said. "Usually when you go to a stadium that loud, all noise cancels out. But against Mexico, we could hear every single chant - and almost every one of them I was whispering under my breath, saying the words along with them. It's an amazing spirit." |
USA-Mexico in Houston in 2003 was also a great experience. Read the pre-match and gameday reports I did for Sam's Army for more details. |

That's me in the middle (the balding white guy) with Big Dog on the right and Andy Mead on the left (check out Andy's Emerald City Gazette ). This is after WAY too much cider. |

If you are looking for old tapes of team USA
or the NASL, Dave Brett Wasser is your man. Take a look at his
website -- Soccer and Sports Videos
-- and find tons of soccer matches from days of old and new!
Want to see Pele's first NASL game? He's got it! Want
to see USA-Colombia from 1994? He's got it! Or the womens game
-- USA v. China in the 1996 Olympics -- you know, the one NBC never
showed in its entirety? He's got it! And it isn't just the USA
-- what about England-Brazil from 1970? Brazil-Holland at the Cotton
Bowl in 1994? England-Argentina in 1986? He has 'em!

On a personal note, one only tangentially related
to my Implausible Dreams -- but related nonetheless --
please take a look at my
Neil Peart Condolences
page. For why, read the section
about his book, Ghost Rider. Simply put, almost
all of the musical references on these pages are inspired
by his lyrics. His determination that he passes on through
his words has supported me on countless occasions. It
made Suwon all the more percient when I had the living actuality
of "Anything Can Happen" right before my eyes.

"I am proud, and I like very much the way the
American team plays," he said. "They never, never were
afraid . They always moved forward, and the team
was very well organized. We talk about the ‘beautiful
game'. America was one of those teams that played the beautiful
game, no doubt."
Pele, June 2002

"We've earned a little bit more [respect], but
not enough. That's fine," Bruce Arena said. "We have to keep
moving forward and try to get better. "The one way you shut everyone up is you
win.
"You've got to step on the field and
just beat them.
"Period.
"Bottom line."

Within (Part One of Fear) From the album Grace Under Pressure Things crawl in the darkness that imagination spins Pounding in your temples, and a surge of adrenaline I'm not giving in to security under pressure Suspicious-looking stranger flashes you a dangerous grin
Every breath a static charge, a tongue that tastes like tin
To you -- is it movement, or is it action? I'm not giving in to security under pressure |
