Chancy came to us the first part of January 2008. He is part of what has been taking up so much of my time of late. I named him Chancy because he was given a second chance at life.

When he was brought to me he was dying from starvation and other problems. He had an embedded collar around his neck, two kinds of mange, staph infection, a multitude of fleas, he was full of worms and he was anemic.

The collar was so tight on his neck that he could not swallow water or food. After I removed the collar I saw his neck had been cut from ear to ear by the collar I cried so hard I sobbed and snorted. I called my vet immediately and he scheduled him for surgery early the next morning.

I then got water and food for him and he drank water and ate food like there was no tomorrow then he laid down on the blanket I put down for him and he slept for hours.

The doctor had to cut a lot of flesh from his neck because it was just hanging. He did a wonderful job though and Chancy's neck looks very good now that it is all healed up.

He weighed 6 lbs. the day he went in for surgery, when I took him back for his checkup and to have the stitches removed he weighed 9 lbs. He had gained 3 lbs. in 2 weeks. He ate and ate the first 3 weeks we had him but he has slacked off some now and doesn't eat as often or as much. The last visit to the doctor he weighed 16 lbs.

He has now had all his shots  and his next trip in a few weeks will be to have him neutered. I have him spoiled rotten and when we take him to the vet he tries to crawl up under my chin and hide. He nudges and digs and just keeps trying to get hidden but he finally lays his head under my chin and goes to sleep when he sees he cannot get any closer to me or get hidden any better.

He loves to ride in the car. The other day I backed the car from under the carport so we could move some things more easily and Chancy had to get in the car and ride with me. When I put the car back under the carport he ran and got in the car with me too.
